8 S. Sgt. Freeman V. Horner, Company K, 119th Infantry, charged alone across open ground into the teeth of fire from three machine guns hidden in a building. Armed with a submachine gun, he forced his way into the building, killed or captured seven of the enemy, and eliminated the enemy weapons. Sergeant Horner was awarded the Medal of Honor.
