Activated 11 April 1947 at East Moline, Illinois

(Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps; redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)

Inactivated  15 November 1950 at East Moline, Illinois

Redesignated 24 November 1967 as the 478th Personnel Service Company

Activated 31 January 1968 at Chicago, Illinois

Ordered into active military service 25 January 1991 at Chicago, Illinois; released from active military service 1 June 1991 and reverted to reserve status

Reorganized and redesignated 17 September 1995 as the 478th Personnel Services Battalion

Ordered into active military service 10 February 2003 at Salt Lake City, Utah; released from active military service 7 August 2004 and reverted to reserve status

Reorganized and redesignated 16 September 2008 as the 478th Personnel Company
