  • Organized 14 May 1901 at Fort Meade, South Dakota
  • Redesignated 23 June 1901 as Troop E, 13th Cavalry
  • (13th Cavalry assigned 1 March 1933 to the 2d Cavalry Division; relieved 18 August 1936 from assignment to the 2d Cavalry Division)
  • Reorganized and redesignated 16 September 1936 as Troop E, 13th Cavalry, Mechanized
  • Redesignated 15 July 1940 as Company E, 13th Armored Regiment, an element of the 1st Armored Division
  • Reorganized and redesignated 20 July 1944 as Company B, 13th Tank Battalion, an element of the 1st Armored Division
  • Converted, reorganized, and redesignated 1 May 1946 as Troop B, 13th Constabulary Squadron, an element of the 10th Constabulary Regiment
  • Inactivated 20 September 1947 in Germany and relieved from assignment to the 10th Constabulary Regiment
  • Converted and redesignated 27 February 1951 as Company B, 13th Medium Tank Battalion, an element of the 1st Armored Division
  • Activated 7 March 1951 at Fort Hood, Texas
  • Redesignated 20 May 1953 as Company B, 13th Tank Battalion
  • Inactivated 15 February 1957 at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and relieved from assignment to the 1st Armored Division; concurrently redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Medium Tank Battalion, 13th Cavalry
  • Assigned 1 October 1957 to the 3d Armored Division and activated in Germany (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
  • Reorganized and redesignated 3 February 1962 as the 2d Battalion, 13th Armor; concurrently relieved from assignment to the 3d Armored Division and assigned to the 1st Armored Division
  • Relieved 5 May 1971 from assignment to the 1st Armored Division and assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division
  • Inactivated 23 April 1973 at Fort Hood, Texas, and relieved from assignment to the 1st Cavalry Division
  • Headquarters transferred 25 March 1987 to the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command and activated at Fort Knox, Kentucky
  • Headquarters inactivated 15 January 1996 at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and withdrawn from the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command
  • Battalion redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 2d Battalion, 13th Armored Regiment
  • Redesignated 16 December 2006 as the 2d Squadron, 13th Cavalry Regiment (organic elements concurrently redesignated as troops)
  • Assigned 16 March 2008 to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, and activated at Fort Bliss, Texas
