  • Activated 1 August 1946 at Fort Benning, Georgia
  • Reorganized and redesignated 15 January 1948 as Headquarters and Service Company, 756th Heavy Tank Battalion
  • Reorganized and redesignated 10 January 1949 as Headquarters and Service Company, 73d Heavy Tank Battalion, an element of the 3d Infantry Division
  • Reorganized and redesignated 14 July 1950 as Headquarters and Service Company, 73d Tank Battalion, and relieved from assignment to the 3d Infantry Division
  • (73d Tank Battalion assigned 10 November 1951 to the 7th Infantry Division)
  • Inactivated 1 July 1957 in Korea and relieved from assignment to the 7th Infantry Division
  • Redesignated 28 February 1983 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 5th Battalion, 73d Armor, assigned to the 194th Armored Brigade, and activated at Fort Knox, Kentucky (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
  • Inactivated 16 June 1987 at Fort Knox, Kentucky and relieved from assignment to the 194th Armored Brigade
  • Redesignated 25 February 2004 as the 5th Squadron, 73d Cavalry
  • Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 5th Squadron, 73d Cavalry Regiment
  • Assigned 16 January 2006 to the 3d Brigade Combat Team, 82d Airborne Division, and activated at Fort Bragg, North Carolina
