  • Constituted 21 August 1963 in the Regular Army as Company B, 4th Aviation Battalion, an element of the 4th Infantry Division
  • Activated 1 October 1963 at Fort Lewis, Washington
  • Inactivated 4 December 1970 at Fort Lewis, Washington
  • Activated 17 March 1980 at Fort Carson, Colorado
  • Inactivated 16 March 1982 at Fort Carson, Colorado
  • Redesignated 16 August 1987 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 4th Aviation, relieved from assignment to the 4th Infantry Division, assigned to the 8th Infantry Division and activated in Germany (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
  • Inactivated 15 November 1990 in Germany and relieved from assignment to the 8th Infantry Division
  • Assigned 16 January 1996 to the 4th Infantry Division and activated at Fort Hood, Texas
  • Relieved 16 December 2004 from assignment to the 4th Infantry Division and assigned to the Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division
  • Redesignated 1 October 2005 as 2d Battalion, 4th Aviation Regiment
  • Inactivated 15 September 2011 at Fort Bliss, Texas
  • Activated 16 April 2013 at Fort Carson, Colorado
