  • Constituted 1 October 1987 in the Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island Army National Guard as the 126th Aviation, a parent regiment under the United States Army Regimental System; concurrently organized from existing units with Headquarters at North Kingstown, Rhode Island, to consist of the 1st Battalion and Companies D, E, and F, elements of the 26th Infantry Division, and Company G
  • Reorganized 1 September 1990 in the Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont Army National Guard to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions and Company E, elements of the 26th Infantry Division, and Company G
  • Reorganized 1 September 1993 in the Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont Army National Guard to consist of the 1st Battalion, Company F, and the 2d Battalion, an element of the 42d Infantry Division
  • Reorganized 1 September 1996 in the Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont Army National Guard to consist of the 1st Battalion, the 2d Battalion, an element of the 42d Infantry Division, and Companies E and F
  • Reorganized 1 November 2002 in the Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and South Carolina Army National Guard to consist of the 1st Battalion, the 3d Battalion, an element of the 29th Infantry Division and Companies C and G
  • (1st Battalion ordered into active Federal service 28 October 2004 at home stations)
  • (3d Battalion ordered into active Federal service 8 August 2005 at home stations)
  • Reorganized 1 May-1 September 2005 in the Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Vermont Army National Guard to consist of the 1st Battalion, the 3d Battalion, an element of the 29th Infantry Division, and Company D
  • Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 126th Aviation Regiment
  • (Company D ordered into active Federal service 8 October 2005 at North Kingstown, Rhode Island)
  • (1st Battalion released from active Federal service 25 April 2006 and reverted to state control)
  • Reorganized 1 September 2006 in the California, Delaware, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virgin Islands National Guard to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 28th Infantry Division, the 3d Battalion, an element of the 42d Infantry Division, and Company D
  • (Company D released from active Federal service 10 January 2007 and reverted to state control)
  • (3d Battalion released from active Federal service 3 February 2007 and reverted to state control)
