Organized in 1869 as the Band, 24th Infantry, at Fort McKavett, Texas

Reorganized and redesignated in 1914 as the Band Section, Headquarters Company, 24th Infantry

Reorganized and redesignated in 1921 as the Band Section, Service Company, 24th Infantry

Separated from Service Company 1 August 1927 and reorganized and redesignated as the Band, 24th Infantry

Reorganized and redesignated 10 January 1944 as the 291st Army Band

Reorganized and redesignated 1 June 1944 as the 291st Army Ground Forces Band

Redesignated 1 June 1947 as the 291st Army Band

Inactivated 25 May 1970 at Fort Benning, Georgia

Transferred 1 January 2011 to the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command and activated at Virginia Beach, Virginia
