  • Redesignated 11 February 1949 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 472d Chemical Smoke Generator Battalion, and allotted to the Organized Reserve Corps
  • Activated 4 March 1949 at Chicago, Illinois
  • (Organized Reserve Corps redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)
  • Redesignated 25 June 1953 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 472d Chemical Battalion
  • Detachment ordered into active military service 9 June 2009 at Chicago, Illinois; released from active military service 13 July 2010 and reverted to reserve status
