  • Drafted into Federal service 5 August 1917
  • Redesignated 4 October 1917 as Company A, 164th Infantry, an element of the 41st Division
  • Demobilized 28 February 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey
  • Reorganized and Federally recognized 8 June 1921 at Wahpeton as Company I, 1st Infantry
  • Redesignated 21 October 1921 as Company I, 164th Infantry, an element of the 34th Division
  • Inducted into Federal service 10 February 1941 at Wahpeton
  • (164th Infantry relieved 8 December 1941 from assignment to the 34th Division; assigned 24 May 1942 to the Americal Division)

  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1985 as Company B, 142d Engineer Battalion
  • Ordered into active Federal service 6 January 2000 at Wahpeton; released from active Federal service 27 August 2000 and reverted to state control
  • Ordered into active Federal service 24 January 2003 at Wahpeton; released from active Federal service 23 January 2004 and reverted to state control
  • Consolidated 1 September 2007 with Detachment 1, Company B, 142d Engineer Battalion (organized and Federally recognized 27 September 1993 at Fargo), and consolidated unit designated as Company B, 142d Engineer Battalion
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 September 2008 as the 188th Engineer Company
  • Ordered into active Federal service 23 August 2011 at Wahpeton; released from active Federal service 22 September 2012 and reverted to state control
