Allotted 20 February 1947 to the Organized Reserves

Activated 6 March 1947 at New Orleans, Louisiana

(Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps; redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)

Redesignated 3 June 1948 as the 489th Engineer Construction Battalion

Reorganized and redesignated 17 December 1948 as the 489th Engineer Combat Battalion

Inactivated 6 October 1950 at New Orleans, Louisiana

Redesignated 8 February 1955 as the 489th Engineer Battalion

Activated 24 February 1955 with Headquarters at Pine Bluff, Arkansas

Ordered into active military service 15 October 1961 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas; released from active military service 9 August 1962 and reverted to reserve status

(Location of Headquarters changed 1 January 1966 to Little Rock, Arkansas; on 15 July 1989 to North Little Rock, Arkansas)

Ordered into active military service 10 February 2003 at North Little Rock, Arkansas; released 17 June 2004 from active military service and reverted to reserve status
