  • Mustered into Federal service 20 May 1898 at Jamestown as Company H, 1st North Dakota Volunteer Infantry; mustered out of Federal service 25 September 1899 and reorganized in the North Dakota National Guard as Company H, 1st Infantry
  • Mustered into Federal service 3 July 1916; mustered out of Federal service 14 February 1917
  • Drafted into Federal service 5 August 1917
  • Reorganized and redesignated 4 October 1917 as Company H, 164th Infantry and assigned to the 41st Division
  • Demobilized 28 February 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey
  • Reorganized and Federally recognized 20 January 1921 as Company H, 1st Infantry; redesignated 21 October 1921 as Company H, 164th Infantry, an element of the 34th Division
  • Inducted into Federal service 10 February 1941 at Jamestown
  • (164th Infantry relieved 8 December 1941 from assignment to the 34th Division; assigned 24 May 1942 to the Americal Division)
  • Inactivated 24 November 1945 at Fort Lawton, Washington
  • (164th Infantry relieved 10 June 1946 from assignment to the Americal Division and assigned to the 47th Infantry Division)
  • Reorganized and Federally recognized 29 April 1947 at Jamestown
  • Ordered into active Federal service 16 January 1951 at Jamestown (Company H, 164th Infantry [NGUS] organized and Federally recognized 16 January 1953 at Jamestown)
  • Released from active Federal service 2 December 1954 and reverted to state control; concurrently, Federal recognition withdrawn from Company H, 164th Infantry (NGUS)
  • Converted and redesignated 15 April 1955 as Headquarters Company, 142d Engineer Battalion
  • Consolidated 1 April 1959 with the Medical Detachment, 142d Engineer Battalion (organized 15 April 1955), and consolidated unit designated as Headquarters Company, 142d Engineer Battalion
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 April 1963 as the 1st Equipment Platoon, 816th Engineer Company
  • Consolidated 1 May 1968 with Company B, 141st Engineer Battalion (see ANNEX) and consolidated unit designated as Company B, 164th Engineer Battalion
