  • Constituted 27 April 1898 in the New York National Guard as the 3d New York Volunteer Infantry and organized from existing companies in northern and central New York
  • Mustered into Federal service 17 May 1898 at Camp Black, New York; mustered out of Federal service 30 November-10 December 1898 at home stations
  • Reorganized 22 December 1898 in the New York National Guard as the 1st, 2d, and 3d Infantry Battalions with Headquarters at Niagara Falls, Geneva, and Oswego, respectively
  • Consolidated 30 March 1907 to form the 3d Infantry Regiment with Headquarters at Rochester
  • Mustered into Federal service 5 July 1916 at Camp Whitman, New York; mustered out of Federal service 5 October 1916 at Camp Whitman, New York
  • Mustered into Federal service 15-18 April 1917 at home stations; drafted into Federal service 5 August 1917
  • (3d Infantry organized 3 August 1917 in the New York Guard with Headquarters at Syracuse to replace regiment in Federal service)
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1917 as the 108th Infantry and assigned to the 27th Division
  • Demobilized 31 March 1919 at Camp Upton, New York
  • Consolidated with the 3d Infantry, New York Guard, and consolidated unit reorganized and Federally recognized 24 April 1920 in the New York National Guard as the 3d Infantry with Headquarters at Syracuse
  • Redesignated 1 May 1921 as the 108th Infantry
  • Assigned 17 November 1921 to the 27th Division
  • Inducted into Federal service 15 October 1940 at home stations
  • Relieved 1 September 1942 from assignment to the 27th Division and assigned to the 40th Infantry Division
  • Inactivated 7 April 1946 at Camp Stoneman, California
  • Relieved 17 May 1947 from assignment to the 40th Infantry Division and assigned to the 27th Infantry Division
  • Reorganized (less 2d Battalion) and Federally recognized 23 July 1947 with Headquarters at Syracuse (2d Battalion, 108th Infantry, reorganized and Federally recognized 17 September 1947 as the 898th Antiaircraft Artillery Weapons Battalion--hereafter separate lineage; new 2d Battalion, 108th Infantry, organized from existing units in south-central New York)
  • Regiment broken up 1 February 1955 and its elements reorganized and redesignated as follows:
  • Regimental Headquarters, 3d Battalion (less Company K), and Company G as the 108th Armored Infantry Battalion, an element of the 27th Armored Division, with Headquarters at Auburn
  • Heavy Motor Company and the 2d Battalion (less Company G) as the 175th Armored Infantry Battalion, an element of the 27th Armored Division, with Headquarters at Binghamton
  • Service Company, Tank Company, and 1st Battalion (less Companies C and D) as the 208th Tank Battalion, an element of the 27th Armored Division, with Headquarters at Syracuse

  • After 1 February 1955 the above units underwent changes as follows:
  • 108th and 175th Armored Infantry Battalions consolidated 16 March 1959 to form the 108th Infantry, a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System, to consist of the 1st and 2d Armored Rifle Battalions, elements of the 27th Armored Division
    Reorganized 15 April 1963 to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 27th Armored Division
  • 208th Tank Battalion reorganized and redesignated 16 March 1959 as the 208th Armor, a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System, to consist of the 1st Medium Tank Battalion, an element of the 27th Armored Division
    Reorganized 15 April 1963 to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 27th Armored Division
  • 108th Infantry and 208th Armor consolidated 1 February 1968 and consolidated unit designated as the 108th Infantry, to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 50th Armored Division
  • Reorganized 1 December 1971 to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 50th Armored Division, and the 2d Battalion, an element of the 42d Infantry Division
  • Reorganized 1 April 1975 to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 42d Infantry Division
  • Reorganized 1 April 1986 to consist of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions, elements of the 27th Infantry Brigade
  • Withdrawn 28 October 1986 from the Combat Arms Regimental System and reorganized under the United States Army Regimental System
  • Reorganized 1 September 1996 to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 27th Infantry Brigade
  • (2d Battalion ordered into active Federal service 1 October 2003 at home stations; released from active Federal service 28 March 2005 and reverted to state control)
  • Reorganized 1 September 2005 to consist of the 2d Battalion, an element of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team
  • Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 108th Infantry Regiment
  • (2d Battalion ordered into active Federal service 28 January 2012 at home stations; released from active Federal service 2 March 2013 and reverted to state control)
  • Reorganized 1 September 2005 as the 108th Infantry Regiment
  • (2d Battalion ordered into active Federal service 28 January 2012 at home stations; released from active Federal service 2 March 2013 and reverted to state control)
