Constituted 10 January 1942 in the Army of the United States as the 742d Military Police Battalion

Activated 1 March 1942 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

Inactivated 10 April 1946 in the Philippine Islands

Redesignated 2 November 1948 as the 304th Military Police Battalion and allotted to the Organized Reserve Corps

Activated 29 November 1948 with Headquarters at Memphis, Tennessee

(Organized Reserve Corps redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)

Inactivated 15 May 1959 at Memphis, Tennessee

Activated 16 December 1991 at Nashville, Tennessee

Ordered into active military service 10 February 2003 at Nashville, Tennessee; released from active military service 11 June 2004 and reverted to reserve status
