Constituted 5 September 1918 in the National Army as the 381st Infantry and assigned to the 96th Division
Demobilized 30 November 1918
Reconstituted 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 381st Infantry and assigned to the 96th Division (later redesignated as the 96th Infantry Division)
Organized in December 1921 with Headquarters at Portland, Oregon
Ordered into active military service 15 August 1942 and reorganized at Camp Adair, Oregon
Inactivated 3 February 1946 at Camp Anza, California
Activated 12 June 1947 in the Organized Reserves with Headquarters at Great Falls, Montana
(Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps; redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)
Reorganized 1 June 1959 as a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System to consist of the 1st Battle Group, an element of the 96th Infantry Division
1st Battle Group inactivated 1 February 1963 and relieved from assignment to the 96th Infantry Division
381st Infantry withdrawn 1 October 1993 from the Combat Arms Regimental System; concurrently redesignated as the 381st Regiment and reorganized to consist of the 1st Battalion, an element of the 75th Division (Exercise)
Reorganized 13 January - 16 April 1995 to consist of the 2d and 3d Battalions, elements of the 75th Division (Exercise)
Reorganized 17 October 1999 to consist of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions, elements of the 75th Division (Training Support); 1st Battalion concurrently allotted to the Regular Army
3d Battalion ordered into active military service 27 January 2003 at Grand Prairie, Texas; released from active military service 25 January 2005 and reverted to reserve status
Additional elements ordered into active military service in support of the War on Terrorism
Relieved 1 May 2007 from assignment to the 75th Division (Training Support)
