Organized and Federally recognized 1 September 1980 in the Iowa National Guard at Des Moines as Detachment 2, Command and Control, Headquarters, Iowa Army National Guard, a Table of Distribution and Allowances unit

Converted, reorganized, and redesignated 30 September 1982 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 134th Supply and Service Battalion; location concurrently changed to Johnston

Redesignated 1 March 1993 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 185th Supply and Service Battalion

Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1993 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 185th Support Battalion

Ordered into active Federal service 7 December 2003 at Johnston; released from active Federal service 3 June 2005 and reverted to state control

HOME STATION:  Johnston
