(IRON SUPPORT)

 

Constituted 30 July 1943 in the Army of the United States as the 704th Ordnance Light Maintenance Company and assigned to the 4th Infantry Division

Activated 4 August 1943 at Fort Dix, New Jersey

Reorganized and redesignated 1 December 1945 as the 704th Ordnance Maintenance Company

Inactivated 2 March 1946 at Camp Butner, North Carolina

Allotted 25 June 1948 to the Regular Army

Activated 6 July 1948 at Fort Ord, California

Reorganized and redesignated 1 April 1953 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 704th Ordnance Battalion (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)

Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1963 as the 704th Maintenance Battalion

Inactivated 15 April 1985 at Fort Carson, Colorado

Converted and redesignated 1 May 1987 as the 704th Support Battalion and activated at Fort Carson, Colorado, as an element of the 4th Infantry Division

Relieved 16 December 2004 from assignment to the 4th Infantry Division and assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division
