Photo: The Fort Atkinson State Historic Park features a reconstruction of the 1820 military installation built on the 'Council Bluff' site of the historic meeting between the officers of the Corps of Discovery and chiefs of the Oto and Missouria Indian nations on August 3, 1804.  The original Fort Atkinson was built on the location described in Captain Clark’s journal as 'a very proper place for a Trading establishment & fortification.' The Fort Atkinson State Historic Park features a reconstruction of the 1820 military installation built on the "Council Bluff" site of the historic meeting between the officers of the Corps of Discovery and chiefs of the Oto and Missouria Indian nations on August 3, 1804.
