1945 LeClerc arrives in Saigon
November 2, 1945. French General Leclerc reviews the first contingent of French troop to be flown to Saigon. LeClerc and French troops receive a warm welcome in the southern Vietnamese city.

December 7, 1945. French forces under General LeClerc re-assert French sovereignty over the Vietnamese countryside. Japanese prisoners set to work repairing bridges. Initial skirmishes with irregulars.
Japanese Surrender in Color (1945)
This color footage of the Japanese surrender ceremony on board the battleship USS Missouri (BB-63) on 2 September 1945, was filmed by Commander George F. Kosco.
