  • Constituted 2 February 1901 in the Regular Army as Troop A, 14th Cavalry
  • Organized 7 March 1901 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas
  • (14th Cavalry assigned 15 August 1927 to the 2d Cavalry Division)
  • Inactivated 15 July 1942 at Fort Riley, Kansas, and relieved from assignment to the 2d Cavalry Division
  • Disbanded 26 October 1944
  • Reconstituted 20 December 1948 as Company A, 14th Armored Cavalry, and activated in Germany
  • Redesignated 15 May 1960 as Troop A, 14th Armored Cavalry
  • Inactivated 17 May 1972 in Germany
  • Redesignated 16 September 2000 as Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry, assigned to the 2d Infantry Division, and activated at Fort Lewis, Washington (organic elements currently constituted and activated)
  • Relieved 27 July 2005 from assignment to the 2d Infantry Division and assigned to the 3d Brigade Combat Team, 2d Infantry Division
  • Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment
