Inactivated 10 February 1946 at Camp Hood, Texas

(16th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, Mechanized, consolidated 2 July 1955 with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 16th Armor Group [active], and consolidated unit designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 16th Armor Group)

Former Troop B, 16th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, Mechanized, withdrawn 24 June 1958 from Headquarters Company, 16th Armor Group, redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 2d Reconnaissance Squadron, 16th Cavalry, and activated in Italy (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)

Inactivated 25 June 1959 in Italy

Redesignated 21 January 1964 as the 2d Battalion, 16th Armor, and assigned to the 101st Airborne Division

Activated 3 February 1964 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky

Inactivated 21 May 1965 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and relieved from assignment to the 101st Airborne Division

Redesignated 2 September 1969 as the 2d Squadron, 16th Cavalry
