- Activated 16 January 1986 at Wheeler Air Force Base, Hawaii
- Reorganized and redesignated 16 May 1988 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 25th Aviation; concurrently relieved from assignment to the 25th Infantry Division and assigned to the 10th Mountain Division (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
- Battalion relieved 15 March 1996 from assignment to the 10th Mountain Division and assigned to the 25th Infantry Division
- Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 2d Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment
- Relieved 16 November 2005 from assignment to the 25th Infantry Division and assigned to the Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division
