- Inactivated 15 April 1986 at Fort Wainwright, Alaska
- Assigned 20 September 1986 to the 101st Airborne Division and activated at Fort Campbell, Kentucky (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
- Battalion reorganized and redesignated 17 October 1987 as the 222d Aviation, a parent regiment under the United States Army Regimental System; concurrently relieved from assignment to the 101st Airborne Division and transferred to the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command
- Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 222d Aviation Regiment
