Constituted 1 February 1963 in the Regular Army as Company A, 227th Assault Helicopter Battalion, an element of the 11th Air Assault Division

Activated 11 February 1963 at Fort Benning, Georgia

Reorganized and redesignated 1 July 1965 as Company A, 227th Aviation Battalion, an element of the 1st Cavalry Division

Inactivated 19 November 1974 at Fort Hood, Texas

Activated 21 May 1978 at Fort Hood, Texas

Inactivated 30 September 1983 at Fort Hood, Texas

Redesignated 16 July 1987 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation, and activated at Fort Hood, Texas (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)

Battalion redesignated 1 October 2005 as 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment

Relieved 16 October 2005 from assignment to the 1st Cavalry Division and assigned to the Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division
