- Inactivated 22 August 1972 at Fort Hood, Texas, and relieved from assignment to the 1st Cavalry Division
- Activated 21 September 1978 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as an element of the 101st Airborne Division
- Inactivated 16 October 1987 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and relieved from assignment to the 101st Airborne Division
- Redesignated 16 September 1989 as Company A, 229th Aviation
- Redesignated 6 January 1992 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 229th Aviation, and activated at Fort Hood, Texas (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
