  • Organized and Federally recognized 15 March 1922 in the Virginia National Guard at Roanoke as the Band Section, Service Company, 116th Infantry, an element of the 29th Division (later redesignated as the 29th Infantry Division)
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 May 1940 as the Band, 116th Infantry
  • Inducted into Federal service 3 February 1941 at Roanoke
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1943 as part of the Band, 29th Infantry Division
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 December 1943 as part of the 29th Infantry Division Band
  • Inactivated 17 January 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey
  • Former Band, 116th Infantry, redesignated 2 July 1946 as the 90th Army Band and relieved from assignment to the 29th Infantry Division (remainder of the 29th Infantry Division Band – hereafter separate lineage)
  • Reorganized and Federally recognized 20 November 1947 at Roanoke
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 July 1986 as the 29th Infantry Division Band
  • Location changed 1 September 2009 to Petersburg; on 27 September 2011 to Clifton Forge, on 1 June 2017 to Troutville
