980th Engineer Battalion

  • Constituted 24 March 1942 in the Regular Army as the 2d Battalion, 334th Engineers
  • Activated 20 May 1942 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana
  • Redesignated 20 July 1946 as the 2d Battalion, 334th Engineer Special Service Regiment
  • Inactivated 27 August 1946 in Belgium
  • Redesignated 14 October 1948 as the 980th Engineer Construction Battalion; concurrently withdrawn from allotment to the Regular Army and allotted to the Organized Reserve Corps
  • Activated 3 January 1949 with Headquarters at Austin, Texas
  • (Organized Reserve Corps redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)
  • Redesignated 31 August 1953 as the 980th Engineer Battalion
  • (Location of Headquarters changed 1 April 1959 to Wichita Falls, Texas)
  • Ordered into active military service 15 October 1961 at home stations; released from active military service 9 August 1962 and reverted to reserve status
  • (Location of Headquarters changed 15 October 1990 to Austin, Texas)
  • Ordered into active military service 7 December 2003 at home stations; released from active military service 3 June 2005 and reverted to reserve status
  • (Lettered companies inactivated 16 September 2008 at home stations; Support Company concurrently constituted and activated)
  • Ordered into active military service 1 November 2011 at Austin, Texas; released from active military service 4 December 2012 and reverted to reserve status
