- Redesignated 1 March 1972 as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 138th Field Artillery Group
- Redesignated 1 July 1978 as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 138th Field Artillery Brigade
- Ordered into active Federal service 15 March 2003 at Lexington; released from active Federal service 4 June 2003 and reverted to state control
- Redesignated 27 October 2006 as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 138th Fires Brigade
- Ordered into active Federal service 7 July 2007 at Lexington; released from active Federal service 9 August 2008 and reverted to state control
- Ordered into active Federal service 1 September 2012 at Lexington
