Organized 19 February 1901 with Headquarters at Plattsburg Barracks, New York
(1st Battalion organized in January 1901 at the Presidio of San Francisco, California, as the 2d Provisional Battalion of Infantry; redesignated 8 February 1901 as the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry; redesignated 29 May 1901 as the 3d Battalion, 26th Infantry - hereafter separate lineage; 2d Battalion, 26th Infantry [organized March-April 1901 at Fort McPherson, Georgia], concurrently redesignated as new 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry)
(2d and 3d Battalions, 27th Infantry, organized April-July 1901 at Plattsburg Barracks, New York, and Fort McPherson, Georgia)
Assigned 1 March 1921 to the Hawaiian Division
Relieved 1 October 1941 from assignment to the Hawaiian Division and assigned to the 25th Infantry Division
Relieved 1 February 1957 from assignment to the 25th Infantry Division and reorganized as a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System
Withdrawn 27 July 1987 from the Combat Arms Regimental System and reorganized under the United States Army Regimental System
