  • Reorganized and redesignated 6 November 1944 as Company A, 87th Mountain Infantry, an element of the 10th Mountain Division
  • Inactivated 21 November 1945 at Camp Carson, Colorado
  • Redesignated 18 June 1948 as Company A, 87th Infantry, an element of the 10th Infantry Division
  • Allotted 25 June 1948 to the Regular Army
  • Activated 1 July 1948 at Fort Riley, Kansas
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 July 1957 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battle Group, 87th Infantry, and remained assigned to the 10th Infantry Division (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)
  • Relieved 14 June 1958 from assignment to the 10th Infantry Division and assigned to the 2d Infantry Division
  • Reorganized and redesignated 15 February 1963 as the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry
  • Relieved 4 September 1963 from assignment to the 2d Infantry Division and assigned to the 8th Infantry Division
  • Inactivated 1 October 1983 in Germany and relieved from assignment to the 8th Infantry Division
  • Assigned 2 May 1987 to the 10th Mountain Division and activated at Fort Drum, New York
  • Relieved 16 September 2004 from assignment to the 10th Mountain Division and assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division
  • Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment
