  • Constituted 22 January 1943 in the Army of the United States as the 442d Infantry
  • Activated 1 February 1943 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi
  • (1st Battalion reorganized and redesignated 10 August 1944 as the 171st Infantry Battalion, Separate [hereafter separate lineage]; 100th Infantry Battalion, Separate [see ANNEX], concurrently reorganized and redesignated as the 100th Battalion, 442d Infantry)
  • Regiment (less 2d Battalion) inactivated 15 August 1946 at Honolulu, Hawaii (2d Battalion inactivated 10 February 1946 in Italy)
  • Allotted 27 March 1947 to the Organized Reserves
  • Activated 31 July 1947 with Headquarters at Fort DeRussy, Hawaii
  • (Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps; redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)
  • Reorganized 29 May 1959 as a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System
  • Withdrawn 1 June 1998 from the Combat Arms Regimental System and reorganized under the United States Army Regimental System
  • Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 442d Infantry Regiment
  • ANNEX
  • Constituted 4 June 1942 in the Army of the United States as the 100th Infantry Battalion (Separate)
  • Activated 12 June 1942 at Oakland, California, with personnel from the Hawaiian Provisional Infantry Battalion
  • Reorganized and redesignated 25 November 1943 as the 100th Infantry Battalion, Separate
  • Reorganized and redesignated 10 August 1944 as the 100th Battalion, 442d Infantry
