Organized and Federally recognized 8 September 1947 in the District of Columbia National Guard as Company A, 171st Military Police Battalion

Ordered into active Federal service 11 September 1950 at Washington, D.C.; released from active Federal service 10 July 1952 and reverted to District of Columbia control

Reorganized and redesignated 1 February 1972 as the 276th Military Police Company

Ordered into active Federal service 3 January 1991 at Washington, D.C.; released from active Federal  service 24 June 1991 and reverted to District of Columbia control

Ordered into active Federal service 30 January 2003 at Washington, D.C.; released from active Federal service 29 January 2004 and reverted to District of Columbia control
