312th REGIMENT

  • Constituted 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 312th Infantry and assigned to the 78th Division
  • Organized August-September 1917 at Camp Dix, New Jersey
  • Demobilized 26 May 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey
  • Reconstituted 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 312th Infantry and assigned to the 78th Division
  • Organized in November 1921 with Headquarters at Jersey City, New Jersey
  • Relieved 20 February 1942 from assignment to the 78th Division
  • Withdrawn 2 April 1943 from the Organized Reserves; concurrently consolidated with the 312th Infantry (constituted 5 May 1942 in the Army of the United States and assigned to the 107th Infantry Division) and consolidated unit allotted to the Army of the United States as an inactive unit
  • Disbanded 14 March 1952
  • Reconstituted 30 March 1959 in the Army Reserve as the 312th Regiment
  • Activated 1 May 1959 as an element of the 78th Division (Training) with Headquarters at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey
  • (Location of Headquarters changed 14 April 1962 to Kearny, New Jersey)
  • Reorganized 31 January 1968 to consist of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions, elements of the 78th Division (Training)
  • Reorganized 1 January 1971 to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 78th Division (Training)
  • 1st and 2d Battalions inactivated 30 July 1973 and relieved from assignment to the 78th Division (Training)
  • 312th Regiment reorganized 1 October 1993 to consist of the 2d and 3d Battalions, elements of the 78th Division (Exercise)
  • Reorganized 17 October 1999 to consist of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions, elements of the 78th Division (Training Support); 1st Battalion concurrently allotted to the Regular Army
  • Elements ordered into active military service in support of the War on Terrorism
  • Relieved 1 April 2007 from assignment to the 78th Division (Training Support)
  • Reorganized 1 October 2012 to consist of the 2d and 3d Battalions
