340th Regiment

  • Constituted 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 340th Infantry and assigned to the 85th Division
  • Organized August-September 1917 at Camp Custer, Michigan
  • Demobilized 21 April 1919 at Camp Custer, Michigan
  • Reconstituted 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as the 340th Infantry and assigned to the 85th Division
  • Organized in November 1921 with Headquarters at Saginaw, Michigan
  • Relieved 31 March 1942 from assignment to the 85th Division; concurrently allotted to the Army of the United States as an inactive unit
  • Disbanded 4 August 1952
  • Reconstituted 5 May 1959 in the Army Reserve as the 340th Regiment
  • Activated 1 June 1959 as an element of the 85th Division (Training) with Headquarters at Chicago, Illinois
  • Reorganized 31 January 1968 to consist of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions, elements of the 85th Division (Training)
  • Reorganized 1 June 1973 to consist of the 2d and 3d Battalions, elements of the 85th Division (Training)
  • Reorganized 1 October 1993 to consist of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions, elements of the 85th Division (Exercise)
  • Reorganized 1 October 1996 to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 85th Division (Exercise)
  • Reorganized 17 October 1999 to consist of the 1st and 2d Battalions, elements of the 85th Division (Training Support)
  • Reorganized 1 October 2002 to consist of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions, elements of the 85th Division (Training Support); 3d Battalion concurrently allotted to the Regular Army
  • Elements ordered into active military service in support of the War on Terrorism
  • (1st and 2d Battalions relieved 1 April 2007 from assignment to the 85th Division [Training Support])
  • Regiment reorganized 15 June 2008 as a parent regiment under the United States Army Regimental System; concurrently 3d Battalion relieved from assignment to the 85th Division [Training Support]
