  • Organized and Federally recognized 2 July 1947 in the Iowa National Guard at Perry as Battery A, 185th Field Artillery Battalion
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 May 1959 as Battery A, 4th Rocket Howitzer Battalion, 185th Field Artillery, an element of the 34th Infantry Division
  • Redesignated 1 March 1963 as Battery A, 4th Howitzer Battalion, 185th Field Artillery, and relieved from assignment to the 34th Infantry Division
  • Converted, reorganized, and redesignated 1 January 1968 as Company D, 234th Signal Battalion, an element of the 34th Infantry Division
  • Converted, reorganized, and redesignated 1 October 1979 as Detachment 1, 3657th Maintenance Company, a nondivisional unit
  • Converted and redesignated 1 September 1987 as Detachment 1, 1168th Transportation Company
  • Ordered into active Federal service 12 September 1990 at Perry; released from active Federal service 30 May 1991 and reverted to state control
  • Ordered into active Federal service 24 October 2008 at Perry
  • Reorganized and redesignated 1 September 2009 as the 1168th Transportation Company
  • Released from active Federal service 1 December 2009 and reverted to state control
