Cavalry Corps Flag

One of the more unique objects in the U.S. Cavalry Museum collection is the Army of the Potomac/Cavalry Corps flag.

General Philip Sheridan directed the flag be made and presented it to the assembled officers at the Society of the Cavalry Corps meeting held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in May 1874.

The French-made silk flag has the words Society of the Cavalry Corps of the Armies of the United States encircling a hand-painted image of crossed sabers and a laurel wreath.

This group met almost annually from after the Civil War through the turn of the twentieth century.

The flag, found in the attic of an Indiana farmhouse, became part of the Cavalry Museum's collection in the 1980s.
