The U. S. Cavalry Museum is located in Fort Riley's historic main post district. Originally constructed in 1855 for use as a hospital, the building was remodeled and became headquarters to the Cavalry and Light Artillery School in 1890. In 1957, the building was designated as home for the Cavalry Museum. Visitors may enjoy exhibit galleries that take them on a historic tour of the cavalry's material culture - from the Revolutionary War through the branches inactivation in 1950. A temporary gallery also chronicles special phases in the history of this colorful post. Free Admission
Closed on New Years Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Visitors to Fort Riley who don't have a Department of Defense ID card must stop by the Henry Gate visitor's center off I-70 to get a temporary pass to the installation.

A US Army armed vehicle located outside the US Cavalry Museum on display. The Duty Statue outside of the US Cavalry Museum honors all cavalry troopers who trained and studied here at Fort Riley. Galleries also include this display highlighting the National Army Training Camp at Camp Funston, which trained over 50,000 Soldiers for service in World War I. Visitors to US Cavalry Museum are greeted by this timeline of cavalry troopers. Uniforms starting with 1776 up through 1930s. The model 1883 Gatling Gun is one of the many unique artifacts at the museum. Exhibits not only feature the wartime service of the U.S. Cavalry, but the training and social aspects of early Fort Riley. This diorama depicts Antebellum cavalry troopers escorting settlers along the Oregon trail. Post Civil War gallery focuses on the multiple missions of the US Cavalry troopers during the opening of the West.
